A Letter Worth Re-Reading…

On October 31, 2008, I sent out a letter to many of my friends regarding the upcoming Presidential Election. Although my expressed hope that the American People could see through the charade was proven wrong, I feel that with the November 2nd, 2010 election just around the corner, the letter deserves to re-read. I made several predictions in the letter that did come true and I stated my beliefs in a way that surprises me today considering that it was written prior to my involvment in Tea Parties (although I’m pretty sure the letter is a good indication of why I got involved in them in the first place). I’m proud to say that I had a pretty good grasp of the situation and my own beliefs in Freedom and the Constitution. We’ve all come a long way through this and we’ve all learned a lot.

Read this letter for what it is: the musings of an American Citizen concerned about the future given what was known then about the potential of an Obama Administration.

My Friends,

I freely admit that I am fearful of what might happen on Tuesday, November 4th, 2008. As a business owner, if Barack Obama wins, my taxes are going to go up even if he does nothing but allow the Bush tax cuts to expire. As a Christian, I am concerned because Obama has stated without hestitation that his first order of business will be to strike down every State law against abortion and have the Federal government become the central authority in family planning and population control. As a radio personality, I am frightened by the re-institution of the Fairness Doctrine which like many laws has been severly mis-named and will do anything but provide fairness and instead will stop free speech in its tracks. As an individual, I am scared that the new levels of taxation on small businesses everywhere will cause the economy to contract and will impact my ability to earn a living by working for myself. As an American, I am worried that as Joe Biden has pointed out, Obama will be tested and many Americans could lose their lives in that test and many more could lose their lives trying to repair the damage done by his inexperience.

Last Tuesday, I co-hosted a local talk radio show in my hometown. My radio nickname is “The Guru” since I am called that in the computer business. On Tuesday, I introduced myself as “Joe the Guru” because I wanted to point out in a non-threating way that in reality we are all like “Joe The Plumber.” I am friends with Joe the Janitor, Joe the Printer, Joe the Lawyer, Joe the Car Salesman, Joe the Accountant, Joe the Forester, and Joe the Doctor. Some Joes are men and some are women. But each and every one of them go out each day and do their jobs, earn a living for their families, and make this Country great. The Democrats and in particular Barack Obama believe there are two Americas out there, but the line they use to divide America separates the Haves from the Have Nots. This is wrong. Oh, there are two Americas out there alright, but the line is really between the Producers and the Takers. All the Joes I know are producers and they work hard for what they earn. The producers are the foundation AND the building that is America. The takers are termites who eat their way into the structures of this country and weaken it’s ability to withstand the forces that come from without. They bore into the core of this country and leave behind them waste and ruin. And they do this without thought or conscience or thankfulness or even a concern for preserving that which provides them with such a feast.

This is the battle that faces us today. This is the line in the sand.

I should tell you that this election and in particular the reporting of this election has left me with a strange feeling. In many ways, this paragraph could be the “third rail” for me and I do not want anyone to misunderstand what I am about to say because I am not calling Obama or anyone associated with his campaign Hitler, but there have been moments when I felt reminded of some of the propaganda and tactics that were used very effectively by the National Socialist German Workers’ Party in the 1930′s. History buffs will tell you that the Nazi party might never have come to power had it not been for the economic depression that the German people were suffering prior to 1930. Unemployment was rampant, inflation was skyrocketing and the German people were demoralized. In 1931 and 1932, Hitler and the Nazi party created discord among the people and violence in the streets and then campaigned against the very unrest they had created and were successful. Promising to revive the economy, manufacturing their own crises and playing down their overt anti-Semitism, finally proved to be the winning combination to thrust Hitler to ultimate power. On February 27, 1933, the Reichstag building was set on fire and Hitler used the event to convince President von Hindenburg to sign the “Reichstag Fire Decree”, suspending most of the human rights provided for by the 1919 Constitution of the Weimar Republic. Hitler held a new election in March of 1933 and the Nazis dominated the election with 43.9%, and with their Nationalist (DNVP) allies, achieved a parliamentary majority (51.8%) ultimately giving Hitler total control. This victory was won by using economic fear, manufactured crises, propoganda, and strong-arm tactics. Once the door was opened to them, dissent was abolished and dissenters were eliminated. Amazingly, during the 1930′s almost every ally that assisted Hitler or promoted him originally were summarily eliminated including the press, opposition parties, and vocal opponents.

So, what does that have to do with today? Again, I do not want anyone to mis-understand me, I am not equating Obama with Hitler, but I am suggesting that it is not a far fetched idea to assume that David Axelrod is capable of appropriating some of Hitler’s best tactics for political gain; after all those tactics worked. I point to the number of television stations and newspapers that have been “banned” from access to the Obama campaign because they asked the “wrong questions.” I point to the examinations of the life of Joe the Plumber because he asked a question (notwithstanding the fact that the damage to Obama in that exchange came from Obama’s own lips, not Joe’s!). I point to the flagrant use of the term “racist” against anyone who dissents. I point to the happy, nay, excited Pelosi and Reed who are jubilant over the possibility of having a “super-majority” of 60 votes in the Senate making any discussion or debate filibuster-proof. I point to the unnerving excitement of the crowds who hear Obama speak and cheer and cry over his empty words of hope and change. I point to the fact that racial pride means that 90+ percent of African-Americans seem poised to vote for a man because of the color of his skin and not the principles he holds.

I point to the willing accomplices in the media who have prostituted themselves out to a political campaign in what I belief is a last gasp attempt to hold on to the power they once held, knowing that if the Fairness Doctrine is reinstituted it will re-invigorate their failing empires. I point to the “moderates” out there who are voting for Obama because of their guilty consciences regarding slavery when they’ve personally never owned a slave and forgetting that it was a Republican president named Abe Lincoln who made that possible. I point to the general membership of the Democrat Party who have sold their souls to an ideology that is based upon a socialist, populist message that has been proven time and time again to be corrupt, poisoned, and dead within its soul. And finally, I point to Obama himself who has tried to hide much of his life history and obscured many of his core beliefs with a mythology created with the two memoirs he wrote about himself before he was 35, downplaying his associations with known, admittedly guilty domestic terrorists, with radical ministers with socialistic tendencies, and supported by radical and monied liberals who have funded his rise to fame and paved the way for this inexperienced unknown to be in position to win election to the most powerful job in the world.

So, yes, I am fearful of what might happen on Tuesday, and yet deep within my soul burns the fire of Optimism and yes, even Hope. For I believe something that Obama does not believe: I believe in the inherent goodness of the Americian People and I believe in their ability to make the right decision. I am an unabashed fan of Ronald Reagan who was and is my hero. He was the first President I ever voted for and even today I have his picture in my office. I loved that man not because he was President, but because he lived what I believe: Give Americans the freedom guaranteed by the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and watch them accomplish amazing things. Like Obama, Reagan was eloquent when giving a speech, but take Reagan away from the microphones, the teleprompters, and the speechwriters and he was still eloquent. He believed in America as the “shining city on a hill” imagined by John Winthrop.

In describing this city, Reagan said, “I’ve spoken of the shining city all my political life, but I don’t know if I ever quite communicated what I saw when I said it. But in my mind it was a tall proud city built on rocks stronger than oceans, wind-swept, God-blessed, and teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony and peace, a city with free ports that hummed with commerce and creativity, and if there had to be city walls, the walls had doors and the doors were open to anyone with the will and the heart to get here. That’s how I saw it and see it still.” Reagan always believed that America’s best days were ahead of her and I continue to believe that with all my heart. Come what may, Americans are different. That is why we are hated around the world. That is why people are jealous of our success as a nation. That is why they risk life and limb to come to America every single day. Our destiny is not to be liked by anyone else. America’s destiny is to shine forth as that city on a hill to point the way for others to follow.

My hope is that the American people will go vote on Tuesday and that they will remember that voting is a duty assigned to the American individual. It is not a right, but a duty and one that comes with the responsibility to excercise that vote with their heart, mind and spirit. In my heart I know that Obama is not the right man for the job. In my mind, there are too many questions that he has not answered and even avoided. And, in my spirit I know that Obama does not speak the language of an American Patriot and I know that he does not believe in this country as a “Shining City On A Hill.” I believe the polls have been skewed. I believe the media is complicit in the fraud that is Barack Obama.

And, I believe that the American People know this in their heart of hearts and will do the hard thing on Tuesday and do what is right for their beloved Country, rather what is easy. It is easy to be swayed by rhetoric. It is easy to be lied to and accept the lie. It is easy to be convinced of empty words. It is easy to go along with the masses. It is hard to think for yourself. It is hard to oppose what you perceive to be convential wisdom. It is hard to stand up for what you believe. And yet our forefathers gave everything for their belief in an ideal and set forth that ideal in our founding documents. There are hundreds of reasons not to vote for Obama, but a man who believes that our Constitution is fatally flawed should never be given the opportunity to swear to uphold that document.

Most of all, I believe that I am not the only American who feels this way.
