We listen to all the rhetoric. We witness the negative campaigning. Through it all, hopefully, we will find reality.
Tuesday’s elections will undoubtedly see substantial gains for Republicans. This alone is no cure for our present problems.
Besides the detrimental socialist legislations by our liberal Congress, we have other more deeply rooted problems. Corruption abounds on both sides of the aisle. Ethics, integrity and honesty are at a low point. Cronyism, PACs and lobbyist efforts have far too much influence in Washington.
Most, if not all, of those who will be newly elected on Tuesday will come with some support or encouragement from the various Tea Parties. We must insist that this group champion our cause. Liberals who survive will hopefully be ‘shocked’ into the reality that their future is in jeopardy.
We have many problems and certainly hope these will be addressed and corrected with the proper priority.
More importantly, this should serve as a mandate to all of Congress to mend their evil ways. They must recognize that this new wave of partisan ‘grass roots’ activism wants more out of our elected officials. The public wants to eliminate the corruption from government. They want to stop the cronyism, reduce the influence of PACs and lobbyists. They want to restore ethics and honesty in politics. Pork barrel issues should never take precedence over doing ‘what is right’. They want term limits.
If this election is a ‘wake-up’ call, a slap in the face to those in office and serves to affect the above changes toward a more moral government . . . then addressing the problems we face, like jobs, taxes, immigration, etc., will actually be a ‘piece of cake’.
Only time will tell. Go vote. Be confident in your choice. Be very wary of any incumbent. And then recognize that our job is not over.
A sleeping giant has been awakened. Onward to 2012.
