Here on this Memorial Day 2011 when we pay homage to all those who served but especially to those who made ‘the ultimate sacrifice’ I wanted to pass on one thought.
In our society, notably since the end of the Vietnam conflict and the termination of the Selective Service Draft, there are many who have never served. That they never served is ‘their loss’. Other than the distorted vision they have formed from many movies, they truly have no concept about military life and the commitment of those who serve. I have met many who oppose the military and all possible reasons by which we place our young people and their leaders in “harm’s way”. They have a right to their opinion but, in my estimation, they are completely wrong.
Today I want to simply note a statement by the reknowned British philosopher John Stuart Mill:
“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks nothing worth a war, is worse. A man who has nothing which he cares more about than he does about his personal safety is a miserable creature who has no chance at being free, unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.”
No truer words have ever been said.
God Bless all who serve.
Our country is a better place because of them.

In the grand pattern of things you actually get a B+ with regard to effort. Where exactly you misplaced me personally was first in your facts. You know, they say, the devil is in the details… And it couldn’t be much more true right here. Having said that, let me say to you just what did work. Your text is definitely quite convincing and this is most likely the reason why I am making the effort to opine. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, whilst I can easily see a jumps in reason you make, I am not convinced of exactly how you seem to unite the ideas which produce the actual conclusion. For now I shall yield to your issue however hope in the future you actually link your dots better.
